International rugby news week 1 (+ European rugby news)

Well, the Maori All Blacks have taken victory against Samoa in a thrashing at Sky Stadium in Wellington in which the match was held without spectators due to COVID-19 alert level 2 being in place in the greater Wellington area before the British & Irish Lions (They had to lose both captain Alun Wyn Jones & Justin Tipuric through injuries during the 1st half of the game as both Courtney Lawes & Taulupe Faletau replaced them) defeated Japan (Who have not played an international rugby test match since the defeat against the eventual champions South Africa (The rugby playing nation that ended the All Blacks 8 year dominance as the world champions in the sport of rugby union but they had an amazing decade in South African sport during the 2010s decade period from hosting the Football World Cup in 2010 (Which was won by Spain (Coached by Vicente del Bosque (Who was in fact not a good player but he was an awesome coach/manager) & led by the great goalkeeper Iker Casillas) who defeated the Netherlands (Coached by Bert van Marwijk & led by a great player named Giovanni van Bronckhorst) in the final at Soccer City in Soweto, Johannesburg in which Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta scored a vital goal during extra time which proved to be the game changer/turning point that put them in front & held on until the end to win their 1st Football World Cup title) to the Springboks (Coached by former player Rassie Erasmus & led by an amazing rugby player Siya Kolisi) triumphed at the last Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019 defeating England (Coached by Japanese Australian Eddie Jones & led by Saracens player Owen Farrell) in the final at International Stadium in Yokohama in a rematch of the 2007 final) in the quarterfinals of Rugby World Cup 2019) at Murrayfield in front of a reduced crowd because of the capacity restrictions then in European rugby news, Toulouse (Who had twice Rugby World Cup winning player for the All Blacks in both 2011 & 2015, Jerome Kaino (One of the 2 ex-All Blacks playing for Toulouse along with Charlie Faumuina), playing in his final game of rugby before retiring from all forms of the game) complete the rare double as they defeated La Rochelle (Who had both former New Zealand players Tawera Kerr-Barlow & Victor Vito playing for them) in the Top 14 final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis in a rematch of the Champions Cup final in which Toulouse won before the Harlequins deny the Exeter Chiefs chance of defending the Gallagher Premiership title with a hard fought win in the final which was a close encounter at Twickenham in London.

So that is my 426th blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 46th of this year.

P.S. And I like to give a big shout out to my best male friend Andy (Who is Carole's son by the way) & my new best friend Kelsey for staying here in Whanganui from Friday until yesterday along with John & Rhonda (Kelsey's parents).

Slice Of Heaven: Black Caps triumph in the World Test Championship

Well, it was last night on Wednesday (Same day that I got both new pairs of glasses where Pops took me to Specsavers & Carole getting her Sky decoder installed at her place as well as there had been a confirmed case of the corona virus in Wellington (Well, to start with, a passenger had skipped a pre-flight test had boarded a flight from Sydney to Wellington to see friends of someone but now he has to self quarantine as a result of picking up the disease) meaning that they have declared a shutdown officially in the Wellington area (But most people will be getting tested to see if they don't contract the virus) under COVID-19 (It has since been ongoing since it began in March last year with the global outbreak 4 months after the very 1st confirmed case of the corona virus happened in Wuhan in China but COVID-19 has always been our enemy so we are still uniting against the severe, contagious disease that they had worldwide) alert level 2 as well as the Kapiti Coast & Wairarapa areas where the restrictions came into effect (They had a netball match postponed but the rugby match had been given the go ahead with only 100 people are allowed in at Sky Stadium which will be held under the state of emergency protocol that they have declared in the greater Wellington area) that Pops took me & Carole to Upokongaro to have dinner at the riverside bar where I had the steak meal with vegetables, eggs & fries but there was really good news that on Thursday morning that the World Test Championship is now New Zealand's Cup! After the Black Caps (Led by inspirational skipper Kane Williamson (Who scored an unbeaten half century at 52 not out off 89 deliveries during the 2nd innings with Ross Taylor scoring the winning runs in BJ Watling's final ever test & there also has South African born player playing for New Zealand, Devon Conway (Who absolutely mowed England down when he scored a double century at Lord's against England (Featuring the likes of the bowling attack of James Anderson, Stuart Broad & Mark Wood & without its top stars of Jofra Archer & Ben Stokes) triumphed over India (Led by Virat Kohli (Who is coincidentally a team mate of Kyle Jamieson (Who was the top performer in the final after picking up a 5 wicket haul in the 1st innings at 5 wickets for 31 runs after 22 overs & he used to open the batting during his 1st XI schoolboy cricket days) at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL) by 8 wickets at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton on the 6th & final day (There was a reserve day available on day 6 because the 5th day wasn't the final day of the World Test Championship final but the final of the ultimate test began on day 2 after day 1 was rained out due to inclement weather but only 4,000 people are allowed in at the ground due to COVID-19 restrictions that were in place) to win our 1st major ICC sanctioned tournament (It is even better than our success in the America's Cup this year with Emirates Team New Zealand during my phone conversation with Dad tonight) since 2000 when we won the Knockout Trophy in Nairobi, Kenya against the same opponent after coming so close of winning the 50 over Cricket World Cups in 2015 against co-hosts Australia & at the last one in 2019 against previous hosts England where I had a great day by watching the test cricket final after Pops told me the news that I heard this morning that the Black Caps (Dubbed as the Emirates Team New Zealand of test cricket) were the victors in the historic 1st ever World Test Championship (And what a nice way for New Zealand to end a World Test Championship like this, what a match for our viewers right around the world, & that surely is the stairway to test cricket heaven, what a day out at the Hampshire Bowl but I wonder the headlines would say: BLACK CAPS WIN WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 or more like: NEW ZEALAND TROUNCE INDIA TO WIN INAUGURAL WTC (And of course in the famous words of former New Zealand cricketer turned commentator Simon Doull in commentary: ''Whips that one away & how appropriate, that Ross Taylor & Kane Williamson are there, for this moment, for this team, its a story that's akin to David Vs Goliath, but Kane Williamson & his team are now, world test champions. And living proof, that sometimes, just sometimes, nice guys do finish first. Been 21 years of heartache, some bare margins for New Zealand, but their name will now be on an ICC trophy once again & it's a group of men, that emphasize team first, none more so than the likes of Kane Williamson, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner & a man playing in his last test match for this Black Caps outfit, BJ Watling. Congratulations to New Zealand, & thanks to India for being such a big part of a great test'') & mowed the lawn which I haven't been doing since nearly 3 weeks ago while I was still watching the cricket by getting $70 for earning it by mowing both the main & the memorial garden area.

And what went right for the Black Caps to win an historic first ever World Test Championship final like this? Because they had some good, experienced players (Like Kane Williamson & Ross Taylor for example as well as Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner & the rising star of New Zealand cricket, Kyle Jamieson) but consistency was the key & it was a motivating factor of winning the final (And poor old India I think because they haven't got a right amount of selection (Mohammad Siraj should've been picked instead of Ravindra Jadeja because they would've made the difference that India (Who lost to Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup tournament followed by the eventual champions Australia in the semifinal of the 2015 50 over Cricket World Cup a year before they lost to the eventual champions the West Indies in the semifinal of the last T20 World Cup in 2016 a year before losing to traditional rivals Pakistan in the final of the last ever Champions Trophy in 2017 2 years before losing to New Zealand in the infamous semifinal of the last Cricket World Cup in 2019) could've won the World Test Championship in which New Zealand were heavily favored to win after that selection blunder made by the Indians had gone wrong) unlike South Africa in the 1996 Cricket World Cup quarterfinal match against the West Indies that pace bowler Allan Donald should've have been picked because of the favorable pitch which suited for the fast bowlers & of course the selectors were in favor of spinner Paul Adams which caused South Africa to lose the quarterfinal after the West Indies had dominated the match (Including a century to West Indian batter Brian Lara but a selection blunder by South Africa cost them a chance to make the semi) to set up a semifinal showdown with Australia who beat New Zealand in the other quarterfinal after Mark Waugh (Who nearly got out after a New Zealand player tried to catch the ball but couldn't as it was put down instead) scored an unbeaten century (There was also a century to New Zealand's Chris Harris but it wasn't good enough to reach the semi) as well as Pakistan (Who were defending champions at the time) in the other quarterfinal match against traditional rivals India (Who have never lost to the Pakistanis at a Cricket World Cup before) that the Pakistani captain Wasim Akram had to pull out through a shoulder injury 15 minutes before the coin toss (The majority of the Pakistan fans were outraged when Wasim got injured & had to withdraw) allowing Aamer Sohail to take over the captaincy but in the end, it was the Indians who capitalized with an amazing victory over the Pakistanis to go through to the semifinals to set up a showdown with the eventual champions Sri Lanka who had just beaten England in the other quarterfinal match.

And here is the article about the Black Caps extraordinary victory according to today's Whanganui Chronicle newspaper:

Black Caps do the business

A punch of the gloves between Ross Taylor & Kane Williamson was a typically understated way to celebrate victory by this New Zealand team as they became winners of the inaugural World Test Championship final. Both carry the scars of defeat in two World Cup finals, so you can understand why they were a little unsure how to mark winning one at last after an intense, riveting final that went deep into the sixth day. Trent Boult said recently he would never get over losing the World Cup final in 2019, but New Zealand handled that excruciating defeat with a graciousness that made this moment of catharsis all the more poignant. Williamson was a helpless onlooker on the Lord's balcony as the super-over drama unfolded two years ago but this time he was in the thick of it, wearing blows to his body, overturning an lbw dismissal & surviving a dropped catch to make a gutsy 89-ball 52 to see his team home by eight wickets. He was partnered in a 96-run stand by Taylor, who may see hitting the winning runs as the perfect way to round off a long career. ''I'm sure a few Kiwis will be waking up very proud'' he said as the clock ticked towards 6am back home. The last six-day test in England was so long ago it featured centuries from Bob Woolmer & Ian Chappell, but the wait was worth it because, despite everything that has been thrown at it, this was a riveting game of high quality not seen in this country for a long time with two excellent teams giving everything. To those still doubting the concept of a World Test Championship final, the sight of Virat Kohli on the sixth day provided the perfect riposte. As India desperately hunted wickets, Kohli repeatedly gesticulated to the crowd, encouraging them to offer more vociferous support for India. A new star has been born in Kyle Jamieson, man of the match for his seven for 61 from 46 overs. Yesterday he bowled two heroic spells, starting with two for six in seven overs before lunch, landing the big wickets of Kohli & Cheteshwar Pujara. Even though he was wicketless in his seven overs after the interval, he conceded only nine runs, containing the threat of a counterattack by Rishabh Pant as India made just 170, setting a target of 139 in 53 overs. But this was not about one man. It was the concerted effort of cricket in New Zealand that overcame the disparity in income & population to produce a team built on the collective & beat India's superstars. Pant is world cricket's most exciting talent & when he was dropped on five by Tim Southee it felt as though New Zealand's final curse was happening again but Jamieson's persistence tempered his attack & he snapped when Boult came on, skewing a top edge, which was caught brilliantly by Henry Nicholls. India's last four wickets mustered 14 runs. It followed the 12 their last four added in the first innings, exposing an underbelly of a team vaunted for its batting. India's hubris also let them down. They named their team two days before the game & stuck with two spinners, despite the filthy forecast & conditions. It left three seamers to hold the attack together, and they tired when a final push was needed. India resumed on 64 for two &, with the sun out, batting promised to be easier than at any stage. But instead Jamieson earned edges from Kohli & Pujara. Suddenly it was clear there could be only one winner. India's fans banged cymbals & drums every time Pant or Ravindra Jadeja played a shot in anger but Neil Wagner has the tenacity of an All Black & ploughed a leg-side side theory that drew the mistake. As soon as he bowled wide of off stump Jadeja could not resist. New Zealand suffered scares. Devon Conway & Tom Latham fell to Ravichandran Ashwin & Williamson was given out leg before on one, but Hawkeye showed the ball missing leg stump. It was the pivotal moment. Runs were a grind & flowed only as the target neared. Jasprit Bumrah dropped a skier off Williamson when he was on 43 but it was all over by then anyway. Moments later Taylor flicked Mohammed Shami for the winning runs. England fans can stop feeling guilty about the last final now.

And finally my last thoughts before I wrap this blog up? Brilliant, absolutely brilliant by New Zealand to become champions of the world in test cricket like this. Great match. Beautifully played because that was our best chance of winning the World Test Championship.

So that is my 425th blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 45th of this year.

And what do I think of the All Blacks squad selection for 2021 so far? Well, no Alex Hodgman (He got suspended before for 3 weeks which cost him a selection after a red card for a dangerous tackle on Highlanders player James Lentjes), Leicester Fainga'anuku (Who narrowly missed out on selection for the AB's because the selectors were in favor of Quinn Tupaea), Cullen Grace (Who was the latest All Black player at #1192) & Jona Nareki in fact to say the least because they narrowly missed out on a place but 4 newcomers such as Ethan Blackadder (He was the better player than Cullen Grace & follows the footsteps of his famous father Todd), Finlay Christie (Who had a blinder of a season when he played for the Blues as they conquered the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition (And was picked because Folau got injured & TJ Perenara not being available), Ethan de Groot (Who had never been suspended before because that's why he was picked ahead of Hodgman) & Quinn Tupaea (He was selected (After being originally named in the Maori All Blacks squad) with Lienert-Brown unfortunately got injured as well as Leicester Fainga'anuku came so close of getting picked & was possibly named after the famous New Zealand rugby commentator of Keith Quinn (Once the voice of New Zealand rugby before Grant Nisbett took over & is currently holding that position as the voice of NZ rugby), how? Because all 4 of them are based on good performances during the course of the Super Rugby Aotearoa & Trans-Tasman seasons.

And finally that there is some decent rugby on this weekend since the end of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition such as the Maori All Blacks (Led by the Hawke's Bay skipper & Highlanders co-captain with Aaron Smith, Ash Dixon) taking on Samoa (With Leinster bound Crusaders & Manawatu player Michael Alaalatoa (Son of former Western Samoa player Vili & brother of Brumbies captain & Wallabies player Allan) at the helm) in the 1st of a 2 match series at Sky Stadium in Wellington (Which will be held under alert level 2 (There had been a confirmed case of the corona virus on Wednesday but there had been no confirmed cases overnight since) in the greater Wellington area (Although there was a netball match due to be held which had to be postponed) to do it without their friends & whanau but the match will be held without spectators since the match had been given the go ahead) followed by the British & Irish Lions (Who'll head on tour to South Africa) facing Japan (Who have never played a test since they previously hosted the last Rugby World Cup in 2019 in which they went down to the eventual champions the Springboks in the quarterfinal (And it was revenge of the Miracle of Brighton in which the Japanese famously salvaged & slayed the Boks to seal a famous historic upset win of all time at a Rugby World Cup in 2015) at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, Scotland in what would be the B&I Lions 1st home game in 16 years (The last time the Lions had hosted a test match at home was in 2005 when they took on Argentina at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, where the match had ended in a draw) + there is the Gallagher Premiership final at Twickenham in London, England between the Exeter Chiefs (Who'll have a chance to defend the title that they won last year after their semifinal victory against the Sale Sharks at Sandy Park in Exeter) against the Harlequins (Who completed the greatest comeback possible in which they defeated the Bristol Bears in the semifinal at Ashton Gate in Bristol) then there's also the Top 14 final at the Stade de France (Venue for much of the 2023 Rugby World Cup) in Saint-Denis between La Rochelle & Toulouse in a rematch of the Champions Cup final in front of a reduced crowd (Mainly because it is under COVID-19 capacity due to the capacity restrictions) at Twickenham in which Toulouse prevailed by 5 points.

So that is my 424th blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 44th of this year.

P.S. And I remember that comment made by Tana Umaga during a Super 12 game back in 2003 for the Hurricanes against the Crusaders ''We're not playing tiddlywinks'' I was like when Umaga made that famous comment to the referee now that's hilarious...But I also remember Zaki's comment made on Facebook about Carole being rested & getting tired after having that huge breakfast at a cafe over in Waiheke Island back in February this year when she went with Pops days before the shutdown ''Where am I when you need me'' And I was like, funny that.

What You Are: 2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final review

Well, the Blues (Who were without Tom Robinson (Concussion) & Ofa Tu'ungafasi (Knee) through injury) triumph their 1st Super Rugby title since 2003 (Which featured the likes of Carlos Spencer as well as Joe Rokocoko, Mils Muliaina (Future Sky Sport rugby commentator), Rico Gear, Doug Howlett, Ali Williams, Kees Meeuws & Keven Mealamu in which they beat the Crusaders (Which also featured the likes of Justin Marshall (Also future Sky Sport rugby commentator along with Muliaina), Dan Carter (Once the world's best number 10 & the current holder for the world's leading test points scorer), Aaron Mauger, Leon McDonald (Future Blues coach), Scott Robertson (Future Crusaders coach), Richie McCaw (Best All Black we have ever produced), Reuben Thorne, Chris Jack, Brad Thorn (Future Reds coach), Greg Somerville & Mark Hammett) in the final during the Super 12 era) in which they comprehensively won the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman title (Including that try that has surely won the game for the Blues by reserve back rower for the Blues, Blake Gibson which proved to be the game changer/turning point after the Blues had a successful counter ruck before Blues number 8 Hoskins Sotutu made a searing break then the Blues reserve halfback of Jonathan Ruru (Who just come on for starting Blues halfback (And former Chiefs & Hurricanes player as well as Tasman Mako) of Finlay Christie (Who had a wonderful match to remember) passed the ball to Gibson who dotted it down for the try to put the final beyond doubt & to put the Highlanders out of reach but there was a yellow card by the Highlanders co-captain of Ash Dixon who had to spend 10 minutes in the bin in the 24th minute for causing a high tackle on Otere Black (He was taken off for an HIA during the 1st half with Harry Plummer replaced him before passing his Head Injury Assessment to return to the field to replace Plummer (Who came back on in the 2nd half to replace Black again & had been kicking like a machine as he nailed 3 shots at goal out of 3 attempts in which he scored both penalty goals & a conversion) but Blues winger Bryce Heem (Who got blocked by Jona Nareki (Who could be the next big thing in New Zealand rugby (Well, I like to see Nareki partnering Sevu Reece in the left wing position for the AB's) but most people think that Crusaders winger Leicester Fainga'anuku as the most preferred All Black left winger with Caleb Clarke now with the All Blacks sevens in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics) before making contact with Mitch Hunt) might have escaped a sin binning offence for tackling a player in the air on Hunt in the 31st minute after getting in the way by Nareki in which the Highlanders have been awarded a penalty but that was a little bit unlucky for Heem) against the Highlanders (Who put up a fair fight during the final but they missed out as they lost the match by 8 points) in the final (Man this is like a Rugby World Cup final because of that test match quality vibe) in front of 36,000 people (Where Andy & Kelsey (Who are due to be here in Whanganui Friday thru Monday (Along with Kelsey's parents John & Rhonda) but I can't wait to see both of them) went (Just like I went to that Teeks concert by filling in for Jans who had to pull out due to illness on the 12th of June with Carole & Pops but Dad (Who I sat next to him during the concert) & Raewyn was there) when Carole told Pops during our dinner last night at her place) at the garden of Eden at Eden Park in the city of sails of Tamaki Makaurau in Auckland so here is the live updates of the historic 1st ever Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final according to Newshub:

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final between the Blues and Highlanders at Auckland's Eden Park.

Yes, you read that correctly - the Crusaders' string of five Super Rugby titles (3 Super Rugby championships in 2017, 2018 & 2019 & 2 Super Rugby Aotearoa titles in both last year (2020) & this year (2021) that the Crusaders won) has ended, after they failed to achieve the necessary points differential in their final regular season game against Melbourne Rebels last week.

There will be no 'Razor' Robertson breakdance tonight!

Instead, the Blues will have a chance to live up to pre-season expectations, when many thought they might finally challenge the southerners' supremacy, after nearly two decades of under-achievement.

Or perhaps the perennial underdog Highlanders can ambush their highly fancied rivals on their home turf.

Blues: 1-Alex Hodgman, 2-Kurt Eklund, 3-Nepo Laulala, 4-Patrick Tuipulotu (c), 5-Gerard Cowley-Tuioti, 6-Akira Ioane, 7-Dalton Papalii, 8-Hoskins Sotutu, 9-Finlay Christie, 10-Otere Black, 11-Mark Telea, 12-TJ Faiane, 13-Rieko Ioane, 14-Bryce Heem, 15-Zarn Sullivan

Reserves: 16-Ray Niuia, 17-Karl Tu’inukuafe, 18-Marcel Renata, 19-Josh Goodhue, 20-Blake Gibson, 21-Jonathan Ruru, 22-Harry Plummer, 23-AJ Lam

Highlanders: 1-Ethan de Groot, 2-Ash Dixon (cc), 3-Siate Tokolahi, 4-Pari Pari Parkinson, 5-Bryn Evans, 6-Hugh Renton, 7-Billy Harmon, 8-Kazuki Himeno, 9-Aaron Smith (cc), 10-Mitch Hunt, 11-Jona Nareki, 12-Scott Gregory, 13-Michael Collins, 14-Sio Tomkinson, 15-Josh Ioane

Reserves: 16-Liam Coltman, 17-Ayden Johnstone, 18-Josh Hohneck, 19-Josh Dickson, 20-James Lentjes, 21-Kayne Hammington, 22-Sam Gilbert, 23-Teariki Ben-Nicholas

4:34 PM: Train services to Eden Park for the big final may be delayed by the after-affects of the tornado that hit South Auckland on Saturday morning, so leave early for the game, if you plan on using rail transport.

Kiwi Rail is advising cancellations to services on southern and eastern lines, while Auckland Transport advises fans to make alternative transport plans to the game.

6:00 PM: Auckland Transport updates confirm additional trains will operate for the game tonight. Happy travels!

7:00 PM: Ash Dixon will lead out the Highlanders for his 100th game with the franchise. He will be key tonight and leads his team in a haka challenge.

No haka from the Blues.

1ST MINUTE: Mike Fraser will referee the final. Highlanders kick off and Sullivan makes the first run. Christie clears his 22, but Highlanders still on attack.

SCRUM: Papali'i rips the ball away, but there's a knock on and Highlanders will feed the first scrum.

2ND MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): From the scrum, Ioane kicks through, but into touch.

3RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Cowley-Tuioti wins the first lineout and the Blues carry from their own 22. Christie kicks out on the full, handing advantage back to Highlanders.

4TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Parkinson wins the lineout for Highlanders and the forwards drive forward. Harmon makes a halfbreak to within 10m of the line.

PENALTY: Hodgman concedes a penalty in the shadow of the posts.

5TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL HIGHLANDERS: Hunt lines up a penalty from in front of the posts and slots it, HIG 3-0

6TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Sullivan restarts long and Hunt clears his own 22. Blues win a lineout, but a pass goes loose in midfield.

Nareki chips ahead, but out on the full.

7TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues win their own lineout (just) and build an attack on halfway. Black kicks high.

8TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SCRUM: Josh Ioane is held up in a maul, but Highlanders win the scrum feed.

10TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER): Big shove from the Blues pack, but Smith kicks from the scrum. Tuipulotu wins the lineout and the forwards maul forward.

Christie kicks high and Telea rises high to claim it. Faiane makes a break, but Tuipulotu can't gather the pass.

11TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Hunt kicks high and chases, but he's penalized for shoving Christie aside.

12TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues forwards probe upcentrefield, but Sullivan's pass to Heem is wayward and the ball dribbles into touch.

Scrum is held up, as Tokolahi gets his knee heavily strapped.

13TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Blues explode the scrum and get a penalty inside Highlanders territory. Black kicks to the corner.

14TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Sotutu wins the lineout and the Blues try to maul to the line. Highlanders upset the drive.

15TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Blues losing big ground, but playing under advantage and Fraser brings them back. Crowd given as 36,000 - not bad for Auckland.

16TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), TRY BLUES: Try to Telea

Blues take the scrum option five metres out, seeking another big push. They decimate the Highlanders. Black kicks across field for Telea, who has to backtrack to catch it and then sidestep the last defender (Ioane) to score in the corner.

CONVERSION: Black's sideline conversion is good, BLU 7-3

19TH MINUTE (3 MINUTES LATER): From the kickoff, Christie kicks high from his 22 and Sotutu puts pressue on the Highlanders. Sullivan kicks long and finds touch inside the Highlanders 22.

20TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Parkinson wins the lineout and Smith clears to halfway - big kick from the halfback.

21ST MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues on halfway and Christie kicks high.

22ND MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues have Highlanders pinned inside their own half and Nareki kicks long. Telea builds momentum.

23RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues go right and Heem takes a half gap, before a speculator pass. Black is down.

24TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Fraser is playing advantage, but the Blues drive forward. Eventually, they come back for the penalty for a player went off his feet.

TMO REFERRAL & YELLOW CARD: Fraser checks foul play on Black and replays show Ash Dixon got him high with a shoulder. Dixon sees yellow and Highlanders are a man down for 10 minutes.

SUBSTITUTION & PENALTY GOAL BLUES: Plummer comes on for Black and lines up a kick at goal from in front of the posts with his first touch of the final - he slots it, BLU 10-3

26TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER): Hunt kicks high and Christie is safe under the ball. Blues spread it right and Heem makes good ground, before tossing the ball infield.

27TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues forwards drive towards the line, but Highlanders recover a loose ball and Nareki clears from behind his line.

28TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Eklund's throw to the lineout is not straight.

29TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): From the scrum, Highlanders kick deep, beyond the goal-line and Sullivan clears inside his own half. Coltman replaces Tomkinson to throw to the lineout.

30TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues steal Coltman's throw and stream forward. Heem chases a high kick and regains possession for his team.

31ST MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Christie puts up another high kick and there's a big collision. Heem and Nareki are jockeying each other, and Heem runs into Hunt, who is airborne to catch the ball.

TMO REFERRAL & PENALTY: After a long review and discussion among officials, Heem is penalized, but avoids a yellow card. Good call from the TMO.

32ND MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SUBSTITUTION: Black has passed his HIA. Evans wins a lineout for the Highlanders and they maul forward.

33RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Akira Ioane is penalized for tackling a man off the ball (Off the ball tackle) and Hunt will take a kick from in front of the posts.

34TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL HIGHLANDERS: Hunt slots the penalty, as Dixon and Black both return to the field, BLU 10-6

35TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Highlanders control the kickoff and Smith kicks high, Black completely misses the catch. Hunt angles another kick to touch inside the Blues 22.

36TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Tuipulotu wins the defensive lineout and Christie clears near halfway.

37TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Parkinson wins a lineout and Highlanders maul forward, but Sotutu has stolen the ball and Faiane steams up centrefield.

SCRUM: He finds Heem in support, but he can't link up with Sullivan, who knocks a tough pass foward.

39TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER): Smith feeds a defensive scrum and the Blues forwards apply the pressure. Hunt clears near halfway and Blues build from the lineout.

40TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Black stabs a kick into the Highlanders 22 and his forwards steal the ball again. Rieko Ioane finds Akira with a dodgy pass, but the Blues stream towards the line.

PENALTY: Black kicks towards Heem, but the ball beats him dead. Fraser is playing advantage against De Groot at the breakdown (Ruck) and he eventually brings them back.

PENALTY GOAL BLUES: Black kicks the easy penalty, as halftime arrives, BLU 13-6

1ST HALF

41ST MINUTE: No changes at halftime, as Black kicks off for the second half.

Smith kicks high, but Rieko Ioane gathers the loose ball. Sullivan kicks towards Hunt, who is caught outside the 22.

42ND MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues lineout in Highlanders territory, they win it and drive forward.

Black dummies and eventually offloads to Sotutu.

43RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Akira Ioane drives over the tryline, but is held up. Highlanders goal-line dropout.

44TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Hunt kicks and Blues charge back towards the 22, through Sotutu.

PENALTY: Parkinson is offside (Never onside), but as the Blues play on, Rieko Ioane finds a gap and threatens to create a try. Nareki intercepts, but Fraser brings them back for the penalty.

45TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL MISS: Black hooks his penalty from in front, that could be costly.

46TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Highlanders regather Hunts dropout and launch an attack from their 22. Hunt angles another kick upfield and finds touch on the full - they come back to the Highlanders 10 for the lineout.

48TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER): Blues win an untidy lineout and Black puts up a high kick that is gathered by Heem, who throws it away.

From broken play, Telea bumps off a tackle and makes good ground.

49TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues just outside the 22, building phases. Heem puts Papali'i in the clear with the line in sight, but the pass is forward.

50TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SUBSTITUTION: Johnstone and Coltman come on for De Groot and Dixon. Tu'inukuafe replaces Hodgman for the Blues.

Smith kicks high, Highlanders get the ball back, but its untidy. Nareki kicks ahead, but Sullivan kicks back with interest.

Hunt scrambles the ball out on the 22, so a net gain for the Blues.

51ST MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SUBSTITUTION: Laulala leaves, replaced by Renata in the Blues front row.

SCRUM: Blues win the lineout and maul to the 22. Faiane surges towards the line, Renata is stopped short and Sotutu loses the ball forward over the line.

53RD MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER), PENALTY: Smith feeds a defensive scrum under his posts, the Blues shove forward, but are penalized.

54TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SUBSTITUTION: Hunt clears beyond the 22, Hohneck and Lentjes replace Tokolahi and Renton for the Highlanders.

PENALTY: Coltman throws long to Nareki, who is nailed by Papali'i. Highlanders earn a clearing penalty at the breakdown (Or ruck), but Fraser reverses the penalty for a no clear release (Tackler not releasing).

Black kicks to the corner.

55TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues win the lineout, as replays suggest Fraser was right the first time.

56TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Blues mount an attack, but Renata is penalized for holding on (Not releasing ball). That's a make-up call... the ball never lies.

57TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), FREE KICK (SHORT ARM PENALTY): Coltman's throw to the lineout is not straight, but Fraser whistles the Blues for an early lift. Highlanders opt for another lineout, as Tuipulotu is replaced by Josh Goodhue.

58TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues are never onside (Offside), as Nareki finds a half gap. Smith tries to put Nareki through a gap, but he's nailed.

PENALTY: Fraser brings them back for the penalty...

59TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL HIGHLANDERS: Hunt lines up a kick at goal from 30m, straight in front, and slots it, BLU 13-9

61ST MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER), PENALTY: From the kickoff, Himeno drives forward and Collins is barely grabbed from behind. Smith wants a penalty and gets one on his own side of halfway.

62ND MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Hunt finds touch on the Blues 22 and Highlanders win the lineout.

Highlanders forwards maul forwards, just 10m out.

63RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Fraser playing advantage, as the Highlanders close on the line. Blues defence is huge and they come back for the penalty on Akira Ioane.

64TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), SUBSTITUTION: Goodhue is leaving the field and Tuipulotu comes back for the Blues. Hunt slips over, but slots the penalty and suddenly, the Blues are just a point ahead, BLU 13-12

65TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: Smith kicks into Blues territory and the Highlanders defence rushes up, earning a penalty at the ruck. This is inside the Blues half and Josh Ioane points to the posts.

66TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL BLUES: From 45m out, Ioane slots the penalty to take the lead, HIG 15-13

69TH MINUTE (3 MINUTES LATER), PENALTY & SUBSTITUTION: From the kickoff, the Blues win a penalty Highlanders territory. Plummer has replaced Black, so he will take an angled kick for goal.

70TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY GOAL BLUES: Plummer is not a kicker you bet your house on, but this one bisects the posts and the Blues go ahead again, BLU 16-15

72ND MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER), SCRUM: Faiane turns the ball over from a lineout win and the Highlanders have a chance. They earn a scrum for the knock-on.

73RD MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Blues monster the scrum, but Smith darts with the ball. Highlanders knock on and Blues have a scrum in their own territory.

75TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER), PENALTY: Ruru feeds the scrum, which collapses. Fraser plays some advantage, but brings them back for the penalty against Highlanders.

76TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), TRY BLUES: Try to Gibson

Sullivan kicks to touch for an attacking lineout on the 10, but the Highlanders snaffle the throw. Blues counter-ruck and Sotutu charges towards the line.

Gibson is next cab off the rank and dives over. Surely that's the clincher.

78TH MINUTE (2 MINUTES LATER), CONVERSION: Plummer slots his conversion from near touch and that may be too big a hurdle for the Highlaners, BLU 23-15

79TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER), PENALTY: From the kickoff, Blues forwards control the ball, but concede a penalty for not releasing ball (Holding on) on their side of halfway. Hunt kicks to the corner.

80TH MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Evans in the lineout and Gilbert runs off the back. Highlanders have an advantage and Hunt attempts a drop kick that misses.

PENALTY: Fraser brings them back for an advantage for a tackler not releasing (No clear release) and Hunt kicks to touch after the siren. They can't win from here, but they can still score.

SUBSTITUTION: We just heard that Samoan Ray Niuia who has been told by the 4th official to come onto the field is on the park for Kurt Eklund in the dying seconds of the match.

80TH MINUTE + 1ST MINUTE (1 MINUTE LATER): Evans wins another lineout and the forwards maul towards the line, but Fraser whistles it over.

Blues celebrate their first title in 18 years (And in the famous words of Sky sport rugby commentator (And the other voice of New Zealand rugby) Tony Johnson (Who was with Justin Marshall & former New Zealand rugby sevens legend Karl Te Nana as part of the Sky Sport commentary team in the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final) in commentary ''That's it, for no more wins, after 18 years, the Blues, have a trophy to put in the cabinet'' And I wonder the headlines would probably say: BLUES END 18 YEAR WAIT OF SR TITLES or more like: BLUES PUT HIGHLANDERS TO SWORD).

2ND HALF

BLUES 23 HIGHLANDERS 15

BLUES: Telea & Gibson tries; Black conversion & penalty, Plummer 2 penalties & conversion

HIGHLANDERS: Hunt 4 penalties, Ioane penalty

So that is my 423rd blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 43rd of this year.

P.S. And it was on Wednesday that me, Pops & Carole went to Japanese Takeaway Momiji (My 2nd favourite restaurant in Whanganui behind Caroline's & ahead of Thai Villa (My 3rd favorite ahead of Rutland Arms (Which is my 4th favorite ahead of Frank Bar) where we always have the Chicken Katsu Bento Box then a day later on Carole's birthday, we went to Frank Bar on Carole's 69th birthday to have the Mediterranean lamb burger that I had a day before I had Chicken Tikka Masala (My favorite Indian meal) for dinner at our place while Pops had the Butter Chicken a day before me, Carole & Pops had pasta with salad for dinner (Just because I wanted Italian for dinner because Italian is always my favorite ahead of Indian, Japanese, Thai & Mexican) just before the rugby began last night (I had a sausage sizzle & sushi for lunch yesterday after Pops went to the river traders market).

2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman round 5 review + 2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final preview

Well, the final round of Super Rugby started as the Hurricanes recover from a tremendous turn around after losing to the Brumbies in round 4 (But they're already out of the picture & out of contention of reaching the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final) to thrash the defending Super Rugby AU champions the Reds (One of 2 of Australia's best sides in the competition along with the Brumbies with 1 win each but they're 2nd best in the competition in the standings) at Sky Stadium in Wellington in Ngani Laumape's farewell game (There were 2 yellow cards in the match, one by a Hurricanes player of Tyrel Lomax for a high hit on Reds loose head prop Fe'ao Fotuaika & the other by a Reds player of Bryce Hegarty for slapping the ball down in the dead ball area resulting in a penalty try but reserve Hurricanes hooker Dane Coles got a double after coming on from the bench to replace Asafo Aumua) before joining Stade Francais in the Top 14 competition in France before the Highlanders (Who had the world's best halfback Aaron Smith getting a double just like Coles but the high flying Highlanders winger of Jona Nareki had to be replaced due to injury as a precaution but has been declared fit for the final along with Pari Pari Parkinson (Who he was under an injury cloud but his grandmother had met one of Pops friends from Northland (Once known as North Auckland), Don Edmonds) to start) have secured a place in the final with an attacking bonus point victory against the Brumbies at GIO Stadium in Canberra followed by the reigning Super Rugby Aotearoa champions the Crusaders (Who had Crusaders winger Sevu Reece in for a hat-trick during the game) came away with a thumping against the Melbourne Rebels at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney but miss out instead of reaching another final after failing to take the victory by more than 33 points (Including that try from Leicester Fainga'anuku that put the Crusaders beyond reach (There were missed opportunities including Crusaders midfielder Braydon Ennor knocked it on before sailing his way to the try line during the 1st half then Crusaders fullback Will Jordan (Who was yellow carded along with Bryn Hall (Who had been sent to the bin for repeated infringements in the dying seconds) during the match for a deliberate knock down) was tackled by a Rebels player into touch whilst attempting to score & Crusaders prop Tamaiti Williams attempting to score a try by using a leg spin style maneuver before bobbling it but this is like the France - Scotland game in the Six Nations decider this year where France needed to get an attacking bonus as well as winning the match by more than 21 points than their opponent to win the title but they failed as the French lost the match to the Scots with South African born Scottish winger Duhan van der Merwe scoring the game winning try handing Wales (Who missed out on a grand slam after losing to France in their last game of the tournament) the Six Nations championship (This is much more like in 2017 where Ireland (Who had their 1st win against the All Blacks in Chicago in 2016 followed by another win against the same opponent in Dublin in 2018 2 years before Argentina had beaten the AB's for the 1st time in an historic upset in Sydney last year during the Tri-Nations) denied England a golden opportunity of winning the grand slam & to break the record for most straight test match wins in international rugby (It still stands at 18 with both England & New Zealand sharing the record for the most consecutive international rugby test match victories) but the referee had to go to the TMO to have a look a potential second movement, & after a consultation from the Television Match Official, the try had been disallowed by referee Nic Berry (And the Crusaders fans were left fuming & were robbed on that occasion after the try by Fainga'anuku being rubbed out by the TMO but the Crusaders have missed out on a golden opportunity of advancing through to the final in an attempt to complete a rare double) awarding the penalty to the Rebels for two movements during the match) then the Blues (Who had Hoskins Sotutu in for a double just like Coles & Smith did) have booked a home final for the 1st time since 2003 when they had a hard fought win against the Force (The Blues scored 28 unanswered points at halftime before the Force dominated the 2nd half but it wasn't to be as the Blues held on until the end by 10 points meaning that the final will be played at Eden Park & the Blues have lost the ever popular player Tom Robinson (Who looked a bit groggy after being the victim of an apparent head clash with a Force player) with what looks like to be an HIA (Rieko's brother Akira Ioane came onto the field as a head bin replacement for Robinson & played for the remainder of the game after Big Red had failed his Head Injury Assessment) but failed as Robinson took no further part in the match & is likely to miss the final (Along with Otere Black who got injured during training yesterday ahead of the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final (With either Stephen Perofeta, Harry Plummer & possibly Beauden Barrett (Who returned after being out of compulsory isolation for a fortnight upon arrival from Japan when he played for Suntory Sungoliath in the Japan Top League who went down to the Robbie Deans coached Panasonic Wild Knights in the final) to play first five (But there is some good news as Black has been declared fit to play in tomorrow's final after overcoming an injury sustained during training) for the Blues when they clash the Landers at Eden Park in Auckland for the big game which is going to be test match quality (Well, I can't wait this Saturday because of the hype surrounding the final being played) against the Highlanders due to a head knock & there was a yellow card to reserve Blues hooker & Samoan rugby player Ray Niuia (Who had an incredible comeback from a terrible injury he suffered at the beginning of last year) for a dangerous contact to the head without force before the Blues have scored a try which was ruled out by the Television Match Official) at the garden of Eden at Eden Park in Auckland (Which hosted the America's Cup series in March this year resulting victory to the defenders Emirates Team New Zealand (Led by the dynamic duo of Peter Burling & Blair Tuke (Who are in fact the modern day iteration of Russell Coutts (Now Sail GP CEO) & Brad Butterworth (Who worked for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli at this years America's Cup as a facilitator) but they're still back home in New Zealand to prepare for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics in order to defend the gold medal that they won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016) who had their second successful defence of the Auld Mug against Luna Rossa but there is bad news as we heard reports that the next America's Cup in possibly 2023 will be held overseas like Cowes in Portsmouth in the UK as well as Abu Dhabi & Dubai in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) after Auckland had just said no deal by turning down an offer to host the 37th America's Cup match mainly due to lack of funds & of course, the Prada Cup challenger selection series if both Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli & American Magic have their intentions to return to take part) before the Chiefs sign off the season by mowing the win less Waratahs side (Who had Tahs loose forward Lachlan Swinton (Who had been selected to the Wallabies squad recently for the 3 match test series against France but is likely to miss a couple of matches due to suspension after a red card as a result for a careless high tackle on a Chiefs player) sent off for causing a high tackle as well as the Chiefs lost Tupou Vaa'i to the bin for a high tackle violation (I thought it wasn't a penalty because of the head clash) during the game) down at Lottoland in Sydney with Chiefs winger Sean Wainui becoming the 1st Super Rugby player in history to score 5 tries in a match.

So it's the Blues to play the Highlanders in the 2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final (Their most recent meeting between the 2 teams (Although both sides have never met in a final which is the 1st in the relatively short history of SR TT) was this year in which the Highlanders won at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin in round 8 of Super Rugby Aotearoa with the match being overshadowed by a red card of Blues prop forward Alex Hodgman for a reckless high tackle on reserve Highlanders loose forward James Lentjes but will it be Blues skipper Patrick Tuipulotu or Highlanders co-captains Ash Dixon & Aaron Smith to become the 1st Super Rugby Trans-Tasman winning captain? We will find it out in 6 days time but will the Blues end an 18 year drought & win their 1st Super Rugby title since 2003 as well as their 4th overall (They 1st did it in 1996, 1997 & 2003) or will the Highlanders win their 1st SR TT title? (And their 2nd overall since they won their only Super Rugby championship in 2015) at Eden Park in Auckland this Saturday night to decide who will become the historic first ever champions of Super Rugby Trans-Tasman (It is going to be another one of New Zealand's biggest sporting days this year on Saturday night since the final of Super Rugby Aotearoa which happened last month on the 8th of May in which the Crusaders triumphed to retain the Tu Kotahi Aotearoa trophy against the Chiefs).

And finally my thoughts before the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final? There is no tomorrow, today we crush the Blues once & for all. Now let's get a move on, we've got a Super Rugby Trans-Tasman title to win here!

So that is my 422nd blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 42nd of this year.

P.S. And I like to give a shout out to both Gary & Kathy Collis (One of Pops friends) for coming over for a visit today where we had lunch but there was a great concert that I went with Carole (Who watched the tennis on TV that I've got it on record today in which Babora Krejcikova won the French Open women's singles title against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (And there's the French Open men's singles final between Novak Djokovic & Stefanos Tsitsipas due to start tomorrow morning that I've got it on record on mySky) but her birthday is on the 17th so I want to wish her a happy 69th) & Pops last night to Teeks at the Whanganui Opera House where I had to sit next to Dad during the concert because I had to fill in for Jans after he had to pull out due to illness so I was in but I loved the concert so much but I have been listening to Incubus a lot (The 1st time I heard Incubus (My 4th favourite American rock band (Red Hot Chili Peppers is my favourite ahead of the Foo Fighters but Bush is both my favourite English (Ahead of The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Blur & Muse) & British (I have a favourite Scottish rock band which is Franz Ferdinand ahead of Simple Minds & The Fratellis compared to my favourite Welsh rock band which is The Manic Street Preachers ahead of Feeder & The Stereophonics) rock band as well as U2 being my favourite Irish rock band along with The Cranberries & Thin Lizzy then Nickelback being my favourite Canadian rock band ahead of Three Days Grace, Sum 41 & Finger Eleven then Seether being my favourite South African rock band ahead of The Kongos (Whose band members are in fact Americans despite being born in South Africa) then Silverchair being my favourite Australian rock band ahead of INXS, AC/DC, Eskimo Joe & the John Butler Trio & finally Shihad being my favourite New Zealand rock band ahead of The Feelers & Split Enz) behind Linkin Park & ahead of A Perfect Circle & of course Filter) was in 1999 (That was the same year that I 1st started remembering what year it was when I was at Raetihi Primary School) or 2000 with the song Pardon Me but the 1st time I remembered listening to my favourite Incubus song Drive (My favourite song now along with my favourite rock song) was 21 years ago) because of both albums of Make Yourself & Morning View that I've got for my birthday along with 1 A Perfect Circle album called Thirteenth Step to go with my 2 Red Hot Chili Peppers (Both What Hits? & Stadium Arcadium), both Foo Fighters (Greatest Hits & Wasting Light) & 2 Linkin Park music albums (Also both Hybrid Theory 20th anniversary edition & Meteora) but I always loved Italian food especially both pasta (Which is one of my favourite foods) & pizza since I was a young kid but I'm starting to love Indian food especially curries during my later years (Although the Italians are in fact football followers compared to the Indians who are avid cricket followers).

And finally there are confirmed reports that the world champion Springboks (Who haven't played international rugby since taking victory at the last Rugby World Cup in Japan in 2019 & are due to host an highly anticipated 3 match test series against the British & Irish Lions but 1st they will play against Georgia in a 2 match test series & this will be interesting & they match the All Blacks with the most Rugby World Cup tournament victories at 3 (The AB's have won the 1987 (They beat France in the final at Eden Park in Auckland with tries scored by Michael Jones, All Black captain David Kirk & John Kirwan as well as Grant Fox scoring 4 penalty goals & a conversion & drop goal each & would not gone on to win a single RWC crown until 2011), 2011 (It was the French again that the AB's beat in a rematch of 1987 at the same ground at the garden of Eden by a single point, ending 24 years of heartbreak & disappointment while All Black prop forward Tony Woodcock scoring the only try in the final for the All Blacks then Stephen Donald (Who was called up to the squad whilst he was white baiting in the Waikato region after Colin Slade got injured (Slade had an injury similar to Dan Carter's during the quarterfinal match against Argentina) had nailed a penalty goal that has surely won the game for New Zealand) & 2015 (And it was against the Wallabies of Australia in which they went on to win in style at Twickenham in London, England where the only time that the AB's had won the tournament on foreign soil & to win back to back Rugby World Cups in Richie McCaw (Who is the only RWC winning captain to lift the William Webb Ellis trophy twice (And one of 2 Rugby World Cup winning skippers for the All Blacks along with David Kirk (Who played for Otago then Auckland & the All Blacks before he announced his retirement from rugby to take up a Rhodes scholar & was once the CEO of Fairfax Entertainment in Australia) but McCaw is now a helicopter (Or should I say chopper) pilot since he retired from playing rugby after the last time the AB's triumphed at the RWC most recently in 2015), Dan Carter (Who is the father of 3 sons now with his wife Honor given birth to son, Cruz Charles to join his brothers Marco & Fox & is the one who injured his groin during the tournament which ruled him out for the rest of the 2011 Rugby World Cup (He didn't play in the last pool match against Canada, the quarterfinal against Argentina, the semifinal against Australia & the final against France, all of them which ended in triumph) but played in the 2015 final against the Wallabies where he had been awarded player of the game for contributing 19 points (He scored 4 penalty goals, both conversions & a drop goal) for New Zealand during the match), Ma'a Nonu (Who was the try scorer for the All Blacks in the 2015 final along with Nehe Milner-Skudder & Beauden Barrett), Conrad Smith & Keven Mealamu's farewell game) tournaments compared to South Africa (Who has a perfect record as they appeared in all 3 RWC finals which resulted in triumphs (The only nation to do so) & the 1st rugby playing nation to win the Rugby World Cup after losing the opening match of the tournament (I mentioned it already in my previous blogs) winning the 1995 (They defeated the AB's on home soil at Ellis Park in Johannesburg with a drop goal by Springbok first five Joel Stransky which broke New Zealand (Which featured the late Jonah Lomu (Who is one of rugby's true global superstars whose career had been derailed by a crippling kidney disease) hearts to put them in the lead before the match had ended, resulting in a famous victory to the Boks just before the late South African president Nelson Mandela handed the trophy to the winning captain, his good friend, Springbok skipper (In 1995), Francois Pienaar), 2007 (In which they defeated England in a try less final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, France in a rematch of the pool game where the South Africans thrashed them by 36 points at the same ground) & 2019 (And it was the English (Who famously beat the All Blacks (Who had their 1st loss at a RWC since the fateful, highly controversial quarterfinal match against traditional rivals France in 2007) in the semifinal) again in which they totally dominated the match to win the last Rugby World Cup tournament after English prop forward Kyle Sinckler left the field with a head knock 2 or 3 minutes into the game in a rematch of the 2007 final at the International Stadium in Yokohama, Japan with Springbok number 8 Duane Vermeulen (Well, I think he is a good player when he exhibited the mastery of a veteran during the final in 2019 (Just like Pete Burling did with Emirates Team New Zealand in the 2017 America's Cup in Bermuda against Jimmy Spithill (Who sailed with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli recently this year when they won the Prada Cup against INEOS Team UK (Who are now the challenger of record for America's Cup 37 but let's hope that the Brits don't become the next holders of the Auld Mug just like Alinghi (Who hired both Coutts & Butterworth to dethrone the Dean Barker (Who was named as replacement skipper since the departure of Coutts after filling in for him in the 5th & final race in America's Cup 2000 against the Luna Rossa Challenge of Italy in which we managed to win to complete our 1st successful defence of the Auld Mug (And the 1st time that a foreign syndicate successfully defended the America's Cup outside of America) led Team New Zealand) did in 2003) led by Sir Ben Ainslie but missed out on claiming the Auld Mug because it went to Team New Zealand) & co in the all Aussie crew of Oracle Team USA) as I mentioned in my previous blogs) being the top performer of the game after being awarded man of the match honors (Just like Jonny Wilkinson in 2003, Victor Matfield in 2007, Thierry Dusautoir in 2011 & Dan Carter in 2015) as well as the self proclaimed rugby god of Siya Kolisi (Another one of those good rugby players just like Vermeulen) becoming the 1st black captain to lift the William Webb Ellis cup & following the footsteps of both Pienaar & John Smit as the other Rugby World Cup winning captains for South Africa) World Cups so far) have announced their intentions of returning to the Rugby Championship this year after sitting out last year due to the South African government travel restrictions as well as player welfare & safety concerns regarding to COVID-19.

2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman round 4 review

Well, there is only 1 round remaining in the historic first ever Super Rugby Trans-Tasman competition as the Crusaders (Well, they can sneak a place by appearing another final (In an attempt to achieve the rare double just like South Africa (Who haven't played test match rugby since their success at the last Rugby World Cup in 2019 as they ended New Zealand's 8 year reign as the world champions in rugby union & is the only rugby playing nation to have never lost a RWC final) did in 2019 when they dominated both the Rugby Championship & the Rugby World Cup in the same year as well as the Exeter Chiefs last year in which they won both the European Rugby Champions Cup & Gallagher Premiership title last year) had taken victory against the Western Force at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch but miss out on an attacking bonus point after Jordan Olowofela scored a vital try in the dying seconds to deny the Crusaders (Who are in fact the Springboks of Super Rugby) with a bonus point win against the Rebels in round 5) maximum points then the Blues hopes of hosting a final were boosted with a win against the Reds at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane to remain on top of the table then the Highlanders thrash the dreadful Waratahs side at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin to remain in the hunt of reaching the final then the resilient Brumbies team handed the Aussies their 2nd win against New Zealand opposition when they held on for the win against the Hurricanes (Who had the chance to win the game twice with Jordie Barrett attempted both penalty goal attempts but it had been missed not once but twice meaning that their hopes of reaching the final are all appeared to be over (And it must been the defence by the Brumbies (They have another home game against the Highlanders in the 5th & final round of Super Rugby Trans-Tasman) that have won them the game) & they had sent Du'Plessis Kirifi yellow carded for causing a high tackle during the 1st half after the pro Brumbies crowd complained that there was a high tackle violation before referee Paul Williams went to the TMO for foul play but the television match official spotted something when Kirifi was the culprit or should I say an offender, resulting in a sin binning) a night before the Chiefs (Who's hopes of reaching the final are all over rover) return to winning ways after losing to the Reds in round 3 after Damian McKenzie got sent off for a high hit as they defeated the Rebels at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney instead of Hamilton because of COVID-19 in the Australian state of Victoria.

And here is the list of round 3 matches being played in Super Rugby Trans-Tasman of 2021 (And it's now 18 & 2 between the Kiwi sides against Australian opposition after the Brumbies joined the Reds as one of the best Australian teams in the competition):

Hurricanes Vs Reds: Sky Stadium, Wellington

Brumbies Vs Highlanders: GIO Stadium, Canberra

Rebels Vs Crusaders: Leichhardt Oval, Sydney (They are still waiting for confirmation in wake of the corona virus in Victoria but they have now confirmed since the Australian state of Victoria has extended the COVID-19 state of emergency which had already been declared (And protective face masks have been mandated in public because they want to avoid getting a fine if they refuse to wear one)

Blues Vs Force: Eden Park, Auckland

& Waratahs Vs Chiefs: Lottoland, Sydney

And finally before we went to Rutland Arms yesterday, I had a conversation to Carole & Pops about the winner of Popstars NZ season 2 2021 because it went to Christabel Williams but 1st it was TrueBliss (Its members consisting of Megan Alatini (Who was once known as Megan Cassie before her marriage to former All Blacks, Highlanders, Hurricanes, Counties Manukau, Southland, Otago & Wellington rugby player Pita), Carly Binding (Who used to be a member), Joe Cotton, Keri Harper & Erika Takacs) back in 1999 who once took on the world before their dreams had been shattered but now have been performing reunion shows since.

So that is my 421st blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 41st of this year.

P.S. And I would like to give a shout out to my Aunty Tania for celebrating her 53rd birthday today (It's the 9th of June in Canada but tomorrow is her actual birthday (It'll be the 11th of June New Zealand time) after celebrating Dad's 52nd on Saturday & my 30th on Monday (The day before me & Pops got our 1st of 2 COVID-19 vaccine jab (Our next one is scheduled for the 29th of June) before we went to Dad & Raewyn's place for the unveiling of my late brother's carving & it was yesterday that we went to Specsavers for an appointment of my eye test as well as picking new glasses (I got both now (One is for the main one & the other is a spare or back up one) after mine broke on Saturday which forced me to wear sunglasses before we went to Hallenstein's to get 2 new rugby style jerseys (1 that I've got now & the other that is coming our way & it was last night that me, Pops & Carole went to Rutland Arms where I had a stockade burger for dinner) where I had a big breakfast before I opened my birthday presents & listened to my 2 Incubus & 1 A Perfect Circle albums that I've got now & played it with my CD player that I've borrowed from Pops & celebrated at Caroline's where I had pasta for dinner before having a birthday cake for dessert/pudding (And 3 people appreciated on Facebook when they sent Pops a comment of a picture of me reflecting on my 30th birthday such as Kalesi Malanicagi (Jona Nareki & Peceli's mother who I never met (I've only met Jona once last year but never met Peceli), Hera Condon-Orr (Who used to be my step sister before Dad met Raewyn as well as Jansen's half sister & now living in Brisbane with her Australian partner & is a mother now) & Jennifer Morgan (Who I now call her JMorgs as well as she is a bit of a Kathryn (Pops sister who now lives in Northland (And her son Ben is living here in Whanganui with his vegan partner Sanne (Who was once known as Robina before changing her name) lookalike & is a sister of both Marnie & Paul & the daughter of the late Vera Morgan).
