Stories of terrible umpiring decisions in the history of cricket

Well, here are some stories of some of the terrible umpiring decisions in the history of cricket but 1st, it was in 1995 that Australia took on Sri Lanka in a test match at the WACA in Perth where Australian batter Ricky Ponting was on the verge of something special as he was on 96 just 4 runs shy of his maiden century on test debut then this happened as Chaminda Vaas bowled to Ponting before the ball struck Ponting's pads while Vaas appealed to the Pakistani umpire Khizer Hayat for an LBW before the umpire's fingers went up so Ponting had been dismissed therefore missing out on a test century on debut but replays show that the ball went too high (Ponting could've reviewed it straight away so that the umpire can overturn the decision from out to not out should today's modern video technology be available) which was a little bit unlucky that Ponting was out on 96 when Aussie skipper Mark Taylor made the declaration.

And the 2nd one that was 20 years ago that India took on Australia & famously won at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the 2nd test where the Indian crowd witnessed Harbhajan Singh had taken a hat-trick of wickets after Harbhajan's wicket on Adam Gilchrist where he was out LBW 1st ball before Shane Warne was dismissed where Harbhajan took a hat trick despite the ball had pitched outside leg stump (Of course that would've been not out which was a little bit unlucky meaning that Gilchrist had survived) & it hit the bat first so the umpire had no hesitation to give Gilchrist out (If today's modern video technology was available, Gilchrist would've reviewed it so that the umpire can reverse the decision).

The 3rd one is about the 2003 Cricket World Cup final in which Australia dominated the match to win their 3rd of 5 CWC titles against India at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg where Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting scored an unbeaten century in the 1st innings but the match will always be remembered where Ponting was trapped LBW off the bowling of Dinesh Mongia before umpire Steve Bucknor said that it wasn't out (That should've been out should the Indians take the review then overturn the decision for the umpire to give Ponting out plumb LB even if today's modern video technology be available) but according to Harbhajan on Twitter that it was pitching in line then the impact was in line & it would've gone on & hit the stumps.

And finally the 4th one is about Sachin Tendulkar being mistakenly given out by the West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor in the 1st test between Australia & India at the Gabba back in 2003 (Although the test match had ended in a draw) where Australian pace bowler Jason Gillespie bowled to Tendulkar then the ball that Gillespie bowled hit him on the pads & appealed to the umpire along with his teammates before this happened as Bucknor gave Tendulkar out which was easily one of the most controversial decisions in the history of test cricket because Tendulkar's LBW dismissal would've been not out as well as the ball would've been pitched outside leg stump (Once again, if today's modern video technology was available, Tendulkar could've reviewed it so that the umpire can reverse the decision meaning that Tendulkar was not out & luckily have to survive the leg before wicket dismissal) meaning that it had too much bounce & went too high.

So that is my 428th blog of the year 2021 (MMXXI) & my 48th of this year.

P.S. And there has been a growing number of confirmed cases of the corona virus in Australia (Which is now in a worsening state during the world wide outbreak) which is now under the state of emergency shutdown in 6 of the 8 states (Except South Australia & Tasmania where they had none but they managed to shut the Trans-Tasman travel bubble down except 2 states & the Cook Islands travel bubble to New Zealand (Still on alert level 1 except in the greater Wellington area which is currently under alert level 2 (Hope Paige, Jarrod, Cathey, the other John Mitchell, Nico, Luca, John Coburn, Lim, Murray Gray, Viluz, Sophia, Sophia's Welsh husband, Sophia's son Shaia & Jennifer Morgan are all OK) is still open since they have no confirmed cases in the country) while Victoria is the worst affected in Australia compared to Fiji which is arguably the worst affected in the Pacific islands with over 300 confirmed number of cases of COVID-19 but Australia is the worst affected in Oceania (India, South Africa, Russia, Brazil & the United States of America have been the worst affected during the global pandemic in Asia, Africa, Europe, South America & North America respectively).

And I really like to give a shout out to my favourite person (Along with Kelsey), Pops who'll be turning 74 in 2 days time a day after Independence Day in America on the 4th of July so I would really like to wish him all the best on his birthday which is due on Monday.
